Daydreaming Playlist

It’s been a while since I put out a playlist and I wanted to share some new mixes and artists with you. A couple of songs you may have already heard, like the TV spot favorite Sweet Disposition by the Temper Trap or Miike Snow’s Sylvia, but I thought the remixes were worthy of posting.

Colin Christian’s Pod People
May 4th, 2010 • Art & Design •

I love these weird pod sculptures from Colin Christian. If the films 2001 Space Odyssey vs. Alien were to be made into a movie, these would definitely be the new creature eggs and instead of a cave, they would be incubating in a Eero Saarinen building.
Uffie is the Shit!
May 3rd, 2010 • Auditory •

If you’re not familiar with Uffie, you should be. Ke$ha knocked off her earlier sound, dating back to 2006, but this new track is hot and a departure from her previous work. The track ADD SUV is produced by french producer Mirwais and features Pharrell Williams. Her upcoming album titled, Sex, Dreams and Denim Jeans will be out on May 31st . The album title reminds me of those banned Calvin Klein Jeans commercials from the 90s.

Ephemicropolis 2010
Check out this obsessive work constructed with 100,000 staples by UK artist and designer Peter Root.
Stacks of staples were broken into varying sizes from full stacks about 12cm high down to single staples. These stacks were then stood up and arranged over a period of 40 hours.

Had a friend in town last week that lit up a cigarette every five minutes. Sorry my friend, but that wasn’t San Francisco Fog, it was a cloud of smoke following you around everywhere.

Scissor Sisters Can See An Invisible Light
April 19th, 2010 • Auditory •
I am digging the Stuart Price produced new track from the Scissor Sisters . I loved their version of Pink Floyd’s Comfortably Numb and the new track, Invisible Light, from their upcoming album “Night Work”, has a very Pink Floyd sound to it. I hope this is a sign of the direction of the new album.

Yves Béhar and Puma’s Super Green Shoe Box
April 13th, 2010 • Art & Design •

The new Puma shoe box design by Yves Béhar has been three years in the making and I think it’s a great idea and a step in the right direction. The outer bag is made from recycled PET but it’s unclear if it’s recyclable and I don’t think this design qualifies for Cradle to Cradle certification but it’s great to see Puma is taking an interest in new ways to package products, thus reducing waste and inefficiency in producing packaging. I would like to know how the shoes are going to be shipped. The advantage of the shoe box is it’s ability to withstand pressure when stacked and boxed for shipping long distances. If the cardboard interior of the new packaging can withstand the same pressure as an original shoe box design, while cutting down on waste and cost, then this design will go far but if this is just for show on the consumer side and it’s actually shipped inside a shoe box to the stores, then Houston, we have a problem.
