Børre Sæthre

Børre SæthreMy Private Sky (Installation)

Norwegian artist Børre Sæthre has a way with the uncanny and is heavily influenced by the sets of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I thought of the piece above while listening to The Blues, which is a collaboration between Primary 1 and Nina Persson of the Cardigans.

Gil Scott-Heron’s New York is Killing Me

photo by NYC photographer Rinze van Brug

This goes out to my friends in NYC. I feel your pain, that’s why I left Chicago after graduate school. Winter is just not much fun when it keeps on coming at you.

Casiokids – En Vill Hest directed by Kristoffer Borgli

Casiokids is a band from Norway and I have no idea what they are singing about but they have a great electropop sound.

Prison Penguin Remix of Jack Penate’s So Near

Jack Penate

Another rainy day in San Francisco and this song fits the mood. The original is a little mellow, for my taste, but Prison Penguin remixes it to perfection.

Dan Black’s Debut Album “UN” Out Today

Dan Black’s UN has it’s North American release today and it’s worth checking out. The song Goreki Fix Up My Girlfriend Some More is a blend of  Prince’s If I Was Your Girlfriend and a piece from composer Henryk Gorecki which creates a very cinematic song and is from his mixtape Weird Science.

Alex Metric Remix of Gorillaz’s Stylo

The Alex Metric remix of Gorillaz’s Stylo has a very Hercules and the Love Affair sound while the original is a very mellow track. Their new album Plastic Beach will drop on March 9th and you can catch them at Coachella on April 19th.

Welcome Back Major Tom

Some of you might know the original Peter Schilling 1984 version of Major Tom (Coming Home) which was a retelling of David Bowie’s 1969 Space Oddity. Well now it’s 2010 and Shiny Toy Guns have given us a good version. You might recognize the song from a crappy car commercial but I won’t hold it against them, gotta make money somehow. What I wanna know is, what year they were at Burning Man when this photo was taken?
