WORLD GO BOOM! DJ EARWORM’S 2011 UNITED STATE OF POP
December 26th, 2011 • Music Video
Tags: dj earworm, music, music video, pop culture, remix
Some news sources out there seem to be a little dense and are not listing to the restructuring of the pop songs in Earworm’s year-end mashup. This mashup has a relevant meaning to what has been occurring with the financial system and the state of the world in the year 2011. You can refer to pop music as the “lowest common denominator” ummm Slate, but if you listen carefully to Earworm’s restructuring of these songs, you will hear that there is always a running theme in pop music that he pulls together, even in such a clear way that even mentally challenged “journalists” that regurgitate postings from blogs should be able to understand.

The new album Swim, from Caribou, was released this week and although it’s a good album and reminds me a little of the Knife’s earlier work, it’s not a dance album. Dan Snaith (Caribou), talks about making the new dance album in a Pithchfork article.
I got excited by the idea of making dance music that’s liquid in the way it flows back and forth, the sounds slosh around in pitch, timbre, pan… Dance music that sounds like it’s made out of water, rather than made out of metallic stuff like most dance music does.
I like the concept, but there isn’t one track that is going to get a dance floor moving, unless it’s the end of the night and you want the floor to be moving it’s way to the door.

If you’re not familiar with Uffie, you should be. Ke$ha knocked off her earlier sound, dating back to 2006, but this new track is hot and a departure from her previous work. The track ADD SUV is produced by french producer Mirwais and features Pharrell Williams. Her upcoming album titled, Sex, Dreams and Denim Jeans will be out on May 31st . I blame the fact that this mashup keeps playing in my head on DJ Earworm. Not only because it’s catchy and danceable, but because I’ve been hearing it blasting from the room next to me for the last month during it’s creation. There are some truly awful songs, cough, cough, um Miley Cyrus, in the mix and Earworm was able to make them into a great mashup that’s gonna make a lot of dance floors happy come this New Years Eve. So when Billboard gives you a bunch of rotten lemons, let Earworm take the top 25 of them and make it into something amazing that will make your mouth water and your ears lust for more.
