WORLD GO BOOM! DJ EARWORM’S 2011 UNITED STATE OF POP
December 26th, 2011 • Music Video

Some news sources out there seem to be a little dense and are not listing to the restructuring of the pop songs in Earworm’s year-end mashup. This mashup has a relevant meaning to what has been occurring with the financial system and the state of the world in the year 2011. You can refer to pop music as the “lowest common denominator” ummm Slate, but if you listen carefully to Earworm’s restructuring of these songs, you will hear that there is always a running theme in pop music that he pulls together, even in such a clear way that even mentally challenged “journalists” that regurgitate postings from blogs should be able to understand.

Now that 2010 is almost over, can we be done with Ke$ha?

Tastes Like Caribou

The new album Swim, from Caribou, was released this week and although it’s a good album and reminds me a little of the Knife’s earlier work, it’s not a dance album. Dan Snaith (Caribou), talks about making the new dance album in a Pithchfork article.
I got excited by the idea of making dance music that’s liquid in the way it flows back and forth, the sounds slosh around in pitch, timbre, pan… Dance music that sounds like it’s made out of water, rather than made out of metallic stuff like most dance music does.
I like the concept, but there isn’t one track that is going to get a dance floor moving, unless it’s the end of the night and you want the floor to be moving it’s way to the door.
Helping Johnny Remember

I’m glad I never had to endure social engineering films as a kid, although I have watched quite a few as an adult because I find them funny and often creepy. Ashleigh Nankivell takes the creepy to a whole new level revealing something more sinister in both the collective belonging as well as the individualistic identities in her remix of the short film “Helping Johnny Remember” which was originally from 1956.

It’s been a while since I put out a playlist and I wanted to share some new mixes and artists with you. A couple of songs you may have already heard, like the TV spot favorite Sweet Disposition by the Temper Trap or Miike Snow’s Sylvia, but I thought the remixes were worthy of posting.
